SaskMade e-News: September 2016

From the "fields" of SaskMade -

The evening air is beginning to chill and the leaves are starting to turn which can only mean one thing - fall is right around the corner. School has begun, kids' activities will be starting up soon and the relaxing, lazy days of summer are gone.

With all this talk of fall, we are gearing up for our Ready Made Meal season. We have a variety of local ingredients and meal options, that are specifically geared towards making those busy weeknights a little easier. We currently have pizzas, pasta, perogies, cabbage rolls, sausage, fish, etc. AND we are expanding our Ready Made options for even more meals you can quickly pop into the oven, which are still healthy and nutritious.

SaskMade is also trying something new this year. You will be able to pre-order your Pineview Farms Thanksgiving & Christmas turkeys from us. There will be a limited number available and a deposit will be required. Delivery will be the week before the holiday. Please stay tuned via our social media outlets for more information as it comes available.

Recipes from our Sour Cherry Festival - in case you missed it.

Cherry Bacon Jam


350g Everyday Farms Frozen Tart Cherries (1/2 bag)

1 pkg bacon (suggest using cherry wood smoked)

2 tbsp liquid honey (to taste)

Thaw and drain off some of the juice from the cherries. Cook the cherries in the remainder of the juice on top of the stove until they break down and all the liquid is gone. Cook the bacon in the oven on a parchment lined pan @ 400F. Cool both the bacon and cherries. Place the cherries, bacon and honey in a food processor and chop until it's a spreadable consistency. Refrigerate for 2 hours.

Serve with crackers & cream cheese, or tortilla chips.
