Have you met Dale and Charlotte Schwanke? They supply our wonderful lamb sausage and Shishliki here at SaskMade Marketplace!
Dale and Charlotte started out working Dale's family farm, which he took over when he was in his teens. But, as most Saskatchewan farmers can relate to, weather and climate conditions forced them to rethink their operations in 2012. They decided to take the risk/adventure and started raising 7 ewes on their family farm. After that first year (and a very sweet story you can read on their website at www.redbarnfamilyfarm.com) they decided to rededicate their lives to raising livestock. Their strong core values mean they prioritize a stress-free life for their animals, as well as sustainable practices that benefit their land.
The Schwanke kids have even started following in their farming family's footsteps by raising their own flocks/herds of pigs, goats and chickens, and tending the family's beehives!
Saskatchewan farmers are working hard to rebuild our local food system, earning the trust of their customers and trying to ensure small to medium sized farming operations in Saskatchewan can survive long term. Buying locally raised meat is the best way you can support what Saskatchewan is all about- hardworking and caring families like the Schwankes!
