People with celiac disease cannot tolerate a protein called gluten, found in wheat, rye, and barley. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that results in damage to the lining of the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients with continued exposure to gluten. GFCO is the certifying body for US based Gluten Intolerance Group. Avena oats also carry Kosher certification through Orthodox Union.
Avena Foods has implemented rigorous standards and quality inspections which guarantee oat traceability and purity. Quality protocol begins with oats from specialized growers who follow a rigid set of guidelines for seeding, harvesting, cleaning, handling, sizing and delivering oats that meet Avena Foods’s premium standards. Once the oats have passed this initial rigorous testing, only then are they delivered to the dedicated pure oat processing plant. The pure oats are then processed in a controlled environment and lot tested for gluten using R5-ELISA technology, the industry recognized standard. Certification by GFCO to less than 10ppm of gluten significantly exceeds Health Canada’s gluten-free standard. This provides customers with complete confidence in the safety of our finished products.
